The status of modern currency law

The article provides an overview of the existing points of view regarding the status of modern currency law and its place in the system of Russian law. The main points of view are investigated: an independent branch, a sub-branch of financial law, its legal institution and a complex branch that includes both public law and private law principles. It is concluded that in the process of developing legislation, currency law is gaining more and more independence, while the opinion about the complex industry is quite justified. However, it is necessary to take into account the original origin of currency law from financial law, which is public, therefore it is the public-legal side of the considered set of norms that will prevail.
