The history of bulletin board newspapers is noted in Russian historiography. They were often considered as part of the periodical press, a means of propaganda and a means of education. However, the issue of using laughter practices in bulletin board newspapers is new. The bulletin board newspapers of the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works of the 1930s provide an opportunity to trace the formation and development of factory humor. The peculiarity of the problem lies in the fact that in Magnitogorsk there was no practice of bulletin board newspapers yet. Bulletin board newspapers and laughter practices in them were born and developed at the same time. In addition, the authors pay attention to the diversity of bulletin board newspapers: from direct bulletin board newspapers to bulletins, breaking news and “Crocodiles”, the frequency of their release, the evolution of humor and its forms. Particular emphasis is placed on the functionality of laughter practices in the bulletin board newspapers of the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works.
