The article is devoted to the pedagogical views of the outstanding Russian thinker — Stepan Petrovich Shevyrev (1806–1864) — philologist, professor of the Pedagogy Department at Moscow University. It is shown that in his pedagogical theory Shevyrev sought to realize the moral ideal formulated by Count S. S. Uvarov and consisted of a combination of European education and “Russian origins”. Acting as one of his main conductors in the system of Russian education, Shevyrev aspired to present an “ideal image” of Russian upbringing.
