The article raises the question of stereotypical expectations of some social roles in a culture that can influence socio-political discourse. It is claimed that one of the productive methods of studying such role expectations is a psycholinguistic experiment, as it allows for modelling current ideas about a role, which is not always possible to do by means of traditional linguistic analysis. The article covers the results of a psy cholinguistic experiment with American respondents, asked to continue three types of sentences concerning an ideal, an anti-ideal and the status quo of a role performance. Thus, it is possible to describe stereotypical role expectations of the role of migrants in comparison with some other roles. In particular, the article draws some parallels with the role of Muslims in terms of respondents' self-consciousness and tendencies to mention discrimination against the group rather than the group characteristics in the answers. Also the article focuses on gender differences in role expectations. In order to emphasise a linguocultural aspect of the mental representations in question, the results of the answers of American respondents are compared with the results of an analogous experiment with Russians. This makes it possible to speak of the differences in the ideal of integration for the two cultures.
