This article discusses the phenomenon of the relationship between the semantic space of the language and the semiotic content. The author considers stylistic markers to be the main means of ensuring this relationship. In the course of the discussion, some theoretical aspects of such concepts as “semiotic sign” and “style” are touched upon, and their significance for exegesis is also shown. Since the discourse of Holy Scripture reflects a specific linguistic picture of the world, special attention should be paid to both linguistic facts and extralinguistic information. The article briefly highlights the modern areas of linguistics, in which it is possible to study such information. The use of semiotic facts of culture makes it possible to make fuller use in philological analysis of a wide range of patristic exegetical material, which is not formally related to the linguistic side of the text. As for stylistic analysis, for the conclusions to be convincing, it must affect all levels of the language. The presented methodology complements the traditional historical and philological analysis both in terms of general semantic analysis and in terms of understanding the historical and cultural context.
