The paper looks at an acute problem around East Africa caused by a bad start to the Horn of Africa rainy season, which has exacerbated fears that the worst drought in decades could soon lead to catastrophic consequences as the crisis is exacerbated by economic sanctions driving up food prices and a distraction from international organizations, the cost of food in the region was already rising due to climate shocks, locust infestations, conflicts and difficult economic times caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to immediate food access and affordability, there are concerns about the long-term impact on food production due to higher fuel prices and soaring fertilizer costs.
