Construction staff of Moscow in 1918-1921

The paper deals with the situation of construction workers and professionals in the overlooked historical period of military communism characterized by a combination of pre-revolutionary and ideologically motivated approaches to staff relations. Due to the development of daily occurrence history, extending the range of sources and gathering new facts have considerable relevance today. Based on the unpublished documents of the Moscow Committee of State Structures, the study considers the status of Moscow construction staff in 1918-1921 and evaluates the preservation and information content of archival sources. The principles of historicism and objectivity are employed along with the problem-based approach basing upon archives and relevant literature. The study identifies data that can be used in further research. The authors concluded that cash payments remained an important component of remuneration in the period of military communism. Joint procurement of goods and their distribution by workers and employees were commonly available as well.
