The structural and semantic organization of the concept “RESPECT” in the English-language media discourse

The article examines the concept of “RESPECT” in English-language media discourse from the perspective of cognitive linguistics. Th e aim of the study is to identify the features of its representation as a mental and linguistic unit refl ecting the value orientations of the English-speaking community. The methodology is based on the analysis of verbal representations of the concept through the construction of its field structure, which includes informational, nominative, and interpretational fields. The analysis covers the etymological and lexicographic characteristics of the lexeme “respect”, the linguistic means of its realization in media texts, and the interpretation zones where the concept acquires cultural meanings. The empirical material comprises a corpus of 150 texts from high-quality British press (“Th e Guardian”, “The Independent”) published between 2020 and 2025. Th e study reconstructs the structure of the concept “RESPECT” as a field with a core, near, and far periphery. The findings demonstrate its multidimensional nature and key role in refl ecting the normative principles and value orientations of the English-language media space.
