Students of a technical university on the role of a foreign language and problems in its study

On the base of a sociological survey (questionnaire method) of students of the Perm National Research Polytechnic University (PNRPU), the motivation and demand for learning a foreign language for the future engineering profession is ascertained. The paper shows the difficulties that students face in the process of studying and their satisfaction with the knowledge received at school. The authors consider obstacles of an organizational nature in the classroom and clarify the most effective methods of educational activity in the process of teaching this compulsory course.
