The article examines the particular features of the compilation of a subjective portrait of a criminal, as well as the problems that arise during its compilation. The importance of this method for solving a crime is emphasized, by identifying the perpetrator, determining his motives, in the absence of photo and video recording. The process of making a subjective portrait is analyzed, within the framework of the existing methodology. The author draws conclusions regarding the complexity and multi-stage nature of the process, which combines both scientific methods and the psychological characteristics of the persons involved in drawing up the portrait. Special attention is paid to attracting a specialist who has the skills to work in specialized programs, possess technical means, while simultaneously building psychological contact with eyewitnesses and victims.
