Suicidal behavior in males: evaluation of hopelessness and depression roles using structural equation modeling. Part II. The phenomen on of hopelessness and suicidality: effects of stratification

In the second part of this study structural models reflecting effects of double mediation of the influence of the cumulative stress on the risk of serious suicide attempts in men who committed suicide attempts are presented. Mediation was investigated on samples differing by the presence / absence of the Hopelessness. Latent variables Affective dysregulation and Rigid adaptation were use das mediators. Analysis of the models showed significant differences in systemic aspects of mediation between the two sub-samples («hopelessnessfull» and «hopelessnessness"). An alternative model for the sample of men experiencin g hopelessness was proposed. Main conclusion states that hopelessness is a marker of a specific group of suicide attempters.
