Suicides cancer mortality in Russia: a comparative analysis of trends

A comparative analysis of trends in sex-specific coefficients of different types of cancer in Russia between 1956 and 2005 was performed. A positive relationship between trends in suicides and all types of cancer in men aside the cancer of small intestine and prostate cancer was established. A positive relationship between trends in suicides and all types of cancer also exists in women. The positive association between suicides and cancer mortality at the population level support the hypothesis that cancer mortality can be considered as an indicator of social disintegration.
