The essence and functions of the state in M.I. Baytin’ teachings

In this article, the author analyzes the work of the famous legal scholar M.I. Baytin, who made a significant contribution both to the Soviet-Russian legal science in general and to the problems of the essence of the state and its functions in particular. His monograph «The essence and basic functions of the socialist state» in 1979 is one of the most recent fundamental works on the topic of the functions of the socialist state, written just before the collapse of the foundations of socialist society.
