The essence of “ghost work” and “ghostworking” as phenomena of the modern economy of the organization

The article is devoted to the study of the essence of such phenomena in the modern economy of the organization as ghost work and ghostworking. Both terms have no translation equivalents in Russian, since the described phenomena have not been studied in the works of Russian authors. In the paper the essence of the ghost work labor model is studied, in which a separate task carried out through a digital platform is performed by an executor who is not a part of the organization’s staff. General economic, technological and individual drivers are identified that contribute to the emergence and spread of the described phenomenon; as well as the consequences of its development and measures to regulate them are revealed. Further in the article, the concept of ghostworking is concretized, which means a labor model of behavior characterized by systematic idleness of employees while pretending some busyness and the areas of spread of the phenomenon in the economy of the organization are identified. In the article the prerequisites for the emergence of this phenomenon and the consequences of its popularization are studied; and also a number of regulatory implications to counteract the development of the phenomenon of ghostworking in the organization’s economy are proposed.
