The tile-stamp from Sviyazhsk for making ceramic tiles

A ceramic stamp-matrix for making ceramic tiles was discovered in Sviyazhsk on the Volga (Fig. 1). The aim of this study was to suggest its attribution and dating. The task to be addressed was to find out where and how this tile-stamp was discovered, what it was made from, what impression it produced and how it could be dated. The visual examination and parallels found by comparing the images on the front plates of red stove tiles from other cities were helpful for dating the stamp-matrix to the second half of the 17th century. The discovery of the stamp-matrix is a direct evidence of manufacturing of stove tiles in the Kazan Volga region.
