The 20th century was interesting in the emergence in Biblical studies of such a direction as “A New Look at St. Paul”. One of the questions that have arisen in connection with this trend is related to the understanding of the expression “the affairs of the law” in the Epistles to the Romans and to the Galatians. This present article is devoted to the commandment in Rom 7:12. It analyses the views of exegetes on “work of the Law” (Rom 2:15), “requirement of the Law” (Rom 8:4) and “commandment” (Rom 7:7- 14). The article shows the relationship between “work of the Law”, “requirement of the Law” and “the commandment”. The main method is contextual analysis. The author concludes that possible variant of the commandment is Shema (Deut 6:4-9), for which Paul made the Christological interpretation. This explanation is new.
