The article deals with interrelation between hardiness and style characteristics of behavior of students studying in big cities and small towns. According to literature it was found concepts close to hardiness: creative life (D.A. Leontyev), "Course of life of the personality" (Rubenstein S.L., Ananyev B.G., Abulkhanova-Slavskaya K.A.). It was experimentally proved that there is a high correlation between hardiness and features of self-direction of students, these findings allow us to consider they are consciously put forward and achieve goals, independent, flexibly and adequately react to change conditions. It was established that the higher general level of conscious self-direction of the person is, the higher hardiness is, and the easier the person learns new types of activity, feels in unfamiliar situations more surely. On this background, achievements become more stable in usual kinds of activity; ability to form such style of self-direction become higher, what allows to compensate the influence of the personal, character features inhibiting the goal achievement. Students studying in small towns have definitely smaller number of correlations between hardiness and components of style self-direction than students of big cities. It was shown that the differences are determined by demographic, social and professional direction.
