Tactical and psychological aspects of interrogation

Introduction. Some components of preparing for the interrogation are under study, consideration of verbal and non-verbal communication characteristics being proved. The paper reveals tactical and psychological techniques of all stages of interrogation: free narration, working and recorded stage; it also analyzes possibility to ask different types of questions, usage of techniques in the sector of a particular investigative situation. Results of the Survey and Discussion. The aspects of traditional and non-traditional methods and techniques of interrogation are thoroughly studied, recommendations of their application are given. Examination of criminal procedural and criminalistics sources, researches of the founders of investigative actions’ study enables the author to demonstrate possible use of tactical and psychological techniques by preliminary investigation agencies when interrogating an accused and a suspect, a victim and a witness. Conclusions. Interrogation is the key action of the investigative process combining primarily the complex of tactical and psychological methods and techniques. Tactical techniques of interrogation include a psychological effect. Using them it is necessary to assess their admissibility and eligibility on the assumption of scientific and ethical criteria.
