Customs law is one of the key branches of Russian law that provides legal regulation of foreign economic activity and control over the movement of goods and vehicles across the customs border. In the context of globalization and Russia's active participation in international trade, the role of customs law is becoming increasingly important. It regulates not only the procedure for customs clearance and payment of customs duties, but also contributes to the protection of national economic interests, the fight against smuggling and illegal trade. The paper examines the main functions of customs law, its place and importance in the system of Russian legislation, as well as current problems and prospects for the development of this branch of law in the context of integration processes and reforms aimed at simplifying customs procedures and ensuring the safety of foreign economic activity.
