Muslim Tatars of the Nizhny Novgorod province in the writings of pre-revolutionary ethnographers

The relevance of the studied problem is due to the study of the problem of Russian historiography about the Tatars of Muslims in the Nizhny Novgorod region, which will determine future prospects in developing this topic.The purpose of the research is to study the writings of local history experts, ethnographers, historians of the pre-revolutionary period, revealing ethnographic and historical data of the Tatars of the Nizhny Novgorod province in the pre-revolutionary period.The leading approach to the study of this problem was the problem-chronological, which allowed identifying ideologies and goals of the ethnographers of the conservative-protective direction, describing the studied group of Tatars. The comparative method allowed us to see the difference between the approaches of tatar and russian scientists to the problem of ethnogenesis of the Tatar-Mishars of the Nizhny Novgorod province.
