The manuscript “Vladimir Yamatov’s Paper about Christianity in Japan” currently is kept at the Russian Statel Archive of Ancient acts” (in the abbreviation RGADA) in Moscow, the collection of baron Osten- Saken. The document dates back to 1863 year and, probably, it was written down by order of the Baron by the scribe of Asian Department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russian Empire from the words of Japanese, who named Vladimir Iosiphovich Yamatov after conversion to the Orthodox faith. The paper itself contains information, which was one of the events as imaginary and which was one of the events as actually took place, as related to Christianity and not having any connection with it. Therefore, without professional knowledge of Japanese history, culture and literature it is impossible to separate truth from fiction and adequately consider the information contained in the paper.
