The Taz of Primorsky Krai: preliminary results of an ethno-demographic survey

The article presents the results of the primary ethno-demographic survey of the Taz people of Olginsky District, Primorsky Krai using the methodology of A.G. Novozhilov, conducted in July 2024 in order to determine the degree of preservation of Taz ethnic identity, to assess their homogeneity as an ethnic community, the prevalence of the phenomenon of multiple identity among them, and the role of ethnic activists in the making of Taz cultural symbols and self-awareness. The study is based on the comparison of official statistical data and local documentation containing information on the number of representatives of indigenous minority peoples, as well as biographical interviews.
