The management practice of peppermint in the Kuban region

Бесплатный доступ

Under the primary tillage for peppermint sowing the highest yield of mint essential oil per hectare was received under deep plowing on 30-32 cm. The tillage of fallow type and shallow plowing of stubble field in combination with the usual plowing contribute to some increase of moisture content in soil by the time of mint sowing. The replacement of harvest-disking with shallow plowing decreases the mint impurity by 17 %. The studying of peppermint sowing dates showed that the best time of sowing is the first of second decade of March. The increase of consumption rate of roots increases the mint productivity. Mint is a highly responsive crop to fertilizer application, especially in furrow for root sowing and in the form of organic and mineral mixes. The highest menthol yield was in case of 75 % of flowering plants; therefore it is more reasonable to begin harvesting during this period.
