Temporal organization of software specialists

The article studies the temporal views of software engineer activity. The paper presents data on preffered option of organizing temporal activities, peculiar to the profession. Time image is known to influence both the human activity and the perception of this activity. The authors consider the activity arrangements (in terms of task performance time) like optimum performance, time pressure, overtime and emphasize the importance of efficient task performance in time pressure mode. As a result the criterion of activity success/failure in temporal deficit is introduced. Another criterion to distinguish the types is an efficiency factor of temporal activity arrangement and preferred activity mode. The authors identified the following categories: independent, systematic and procrastinating. The research shows that the most common temporal type among software engineers is a procrastinating successful style of work which makes the performance successful only in the period of temporal deficit. This illustrates the proof that software engineers are able to work in changing temporal conditions and organize their activity in accordance with their requirements, despite the fact that this style of work is not as efficient as others.
