Swine breeding plays a leading role in solving the problem of providing population with meat. This article contains a brief description of the world's swine industry: the leading countries, the main exporters and importers of pork, consumption and production of pork, the number of pigs in different regions of the world and the trends in hog production in Russia were determined in it. Among the countries with the most developed swine breeding, which include the European Union, the United States, Canada, Brazil, it is necessary to emphasize Denmark, which produces five times more pork than it consumes. Denmark is the world's best producer of breeding pigs and a large pork exporter. In 2016 Russia took the fifth place among the world's pork producers (after China, the EU, the US and Brazil) and decreased its dependence on imports to 8-9%. The pig population in the world in the recent years was about 950-960 million heads, and the production of pork was about 110-115 million tons. About 80% of all swine are located in Asia and Europe. The largest producer and consumer of pork is China. About half of all swine and pork production are concentrated in this territory, however this country annually exports hog products. The world's leading exporters of pork are the United States of America, the EU countries, Canada, Brazil. In general, swine breeding in the modern world develops mainly not by increasing the number of animals, but by increasing pork production. This is achieved by the success in breeding work, a high level of reproduction, use of crossbreeding, intensive fattening. One of the main elements of the profitability of the pig-breeding industry is the use of the resource-saving technologies.
