Trends in the development of the global fuel and energy complex in modern economic conditions

The article is devoted to the study of the dynamics and structure of changes in the parameters of consumption of fuel and energy resources in the world from 1965 to the modern period. The materials analyze changes in the dynamics of both the total consumption of fuel and energy resources and various types of energy carriers. The trend of the global energy transition is revealed, as well as the analysis of factors stimulating the global fuel and energy complex to gradually replace less environmentally friendly types of energy resources with natural gas and renewable energy sources. The analysis of empirical data on changes in prices for the supply of energy resources over the past 35 years is carried out. As a result of the analysis of the dynamics of changes in the consumption of energy resources within the world continents for the period 1990-2017, it was revealed that the increase in electricity consumption is ahead of the growth in the consumption of primary fuel and energy resources in all world continents, which emphasizes the gradual replacement of consumed energy resources with electric energy. The results obtained emphasize that electric energy and the electric power industry are gradually gaining an increasingly significant role in shaping the global energy balance. One of the most promising areas of scientific research in the field of fuel and energy is the issue of increasing the efficiency of consumption of electric energy, which is primarily consumed by industrial complexes and large consumers of electric energy.
