Market trends for mergers and acquisitions in the field of pharmaceuticals, medicine and biotechnology

The article presents the modern author’s and institutional (official) interpretation of mergers and acquisitions as common phenomena in the market environment. A structural analysis of M&A transactions was carried out on the scale of the global and Russian pharmaceutical, medicine and biotechnology markets in the dynamics of 2014-2022. Examples of specific transactions are given (volume, object and subject of the transaction, field of activity). The emphasis is placed on the investment component (attractiveness) of the transaction for direct investors. At the same time, economic, political, and competitive factors are identified that influence the activity of business entities and determine the prospects for long-term market concentration and centralization. A conclusion is formulated about the key differences in the motivational mechanism of M&A transactions in the practice of Russian and foreign companies in the field of pharmaceuticals, medicine and biotechnology.
