The socio-political processes and state-administrative transformations in the Republic of Buryatia in the postSoviet period are analyzed in the paper. Post-socialist transformations of the Russian society structure set the main vectors and determined the content of changes in all spheres of public life, both at the federal and regional levels. The formation of new political institutes and administrative structures in the republic took place at the first stage in the period of the 1990s and met all the requirements and trends of the new era in line with all-Russian trends. Features of the political process in Buryatia and its social characteristics were determined by the status of the national republic, the specificity of interethnic relations, which did not have significant conflict potential. Modern socio-political processes in the republic are developing under the influence of the worsening socio-economic situation of the population and require the search for answers to new challenges.
