"Shadows of forgotten ancestors": genealogy of Ilterish Hagan and his brothers

Genealogy of well-known personalities of the early Second Eastern TurkicKhanate, i. e. Ilterish Hagan and his brothers Mochuo Hagan (Mojo) and Dusi-fu (Dosu-po), had a substantial gap because the names of their father and grandfather were unknown.Having carefully examined data from known publications of early medieval Chinesechronicles as well as runic and Chinese inscriptions on the Kül Tegin stele, the authorhas established that the grandfather of Ilterish Hagan and his brothers was Shibi Hagan,who had ruled at the end of the First Eastern Turkic Khaganate, while their father wasShibi Hagan’s elder son Kutlug Irkin. Therefore, the genealogy of Turkic khanates hada continuous lineage throughout the 6th - 8th centuries.
