Theological approaches to education and learning in Russian pedagogy in the middle of the 19th century

The article discusses the formation of a theological understanding of education and upbringing in the constructions of the Russian teachers of Ser. XIX century. Pedagogical concepts of Nikolai Pirogov, Konstantin Ushinsky and other major theorists are widely known, together with them, pedagogy developed within the framework of Russian theological schools. In the middle 19th century have emerged generalizing theories that would link issues of theology and education on the basis of Orthodox values foundation. The theology of education developed by the Archbishop Evseviy (Orlinsky), Sylvester Gogotsky, Pamfil Yurkevich and Rev. Sergey Sollertinsky, with huge historical and theoretical significance. It is shown that the Archbishop Eusebius (Orlinsky) defined the value of the moral and theological foundation of education. Sylvester Gogotsky and Pamfil Yurkevich addressed the relationship of the pedagogy with some theological problems, finally, Rev. Sergey Sollertinsky connected the pedagogy issues with the psychology of religion. These teaching, developing by the representatives of Russian religious thought, evolved beyond the immediate practical interests of theological schools, which allows them to be considered as universal theological theories of the education.
