In the article the problem of studying the phenomenon of loneliness is considered. Difficulties of definition and interpretation of the essence of loneliness are attributable to certain limitations in the theoretical understanding of loneliness as a mental phenomenon. The term «loneliness» in this context is considered as a category of experience. The article presents the author’s model of the experience of loneliness, which is developed based on the principles of a systematic approach. According to the proposed model, the experience of loneliness as a holistic education is im-plemented on the basis of cognitive (performs a preparatory function, which ensures the formation of ideas about the experience of loneliness, perception of self as subject and the formation of dominant forms of identifying oneself with others), emotional (performs the function of assessment, which ensures the formation of emotional evaluation and acceptance or rejection of one’s own experiences), behavioral (performs a regulatory function, which provides a measure of the activity of the individual in the experience of loneliness) and motivational-volitional (performs a stimulatory function, which consists of a complex of motives and voluntary actions of the individual, which occur in certain forms of existence of feelings of loneliness) components of the experience of loneliness. Based on the review of loneliness as a system of experiences, own understanding of the experience of loneliness is offered.
