The article is devoted to the theoretical aspects of innovation activity of a higher education institution as a factor of competitiveness. Timelines of the topic of the article is that today innovation activity is one of the most dynamic and promising directions both in national and in the global economy. Therefore, the paper takes systematized experience of disclosure of the theoretical aspects of innovation activity of a higher education institution as a factor of competitiveness. On the basis of the performed analysis the article author concludes that the increasing role of innovation activity management in a higher education institution is not just an independent science discipline today, but it is represented a precondition, factor, the condition for transition to sustainable innovative social-economical societal development.
