The paper proves that the main objective of epistemo-logical function of geoecology in education liesin the use of the latest educational technologies and methods of training and education for ensuringformation in individual and society’s public consciousness a moral and noosphere imperative of tran-sition to a sustainable development.according to authors, transition to a sustainable development asnew stage of relationship of society and nature can’t be carried out without science and education.theeducational system has to provide the necessary change of mentality of society which most fully wouldconsider the main ideas of a sustainable development and would assist their realization in practicalactivities of a modern civilization.the education system directly and most effectively has to work forthe future because it defines personal qualities of each person, his knowledge and ability, behaviouralpriorities, and, eventually – the economic, spiritual and material capacity of society and a civilisa-tion in general.developing this idea, authors note that in close historical prospect the mankind hasno more reliable support for a survival, than an education system.it is claimed that the geoecologyhas opportunity to make the significant contribution to solutions of the majority of global problems, and also to development of the theory and practice of a sustainable development as paradigms ofa survival of a modern civilization.authors reveal the epistemo-logical, noosphere and world outlookfunctions of geoecology for overcoming a stereotype of anthropocentric approach and formation ofnoosphere mentality of society.
