This article analyzes the research dedicated to Self-Determination Theory (SDT), gamification, and their impact on student motivation. The author examines the structure of motivation within the framework of SDT and its application in gamification. The theoretical basis of the study is based on the concept of E. Desi and R. Ryan which claims that motivation is due to the meeting of the tree basic psychological needs: autonomy, competence and social connectedness. The author presents a review of studies exploring the motivational effects of gamification, including intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. The article investigates whether properly implemented gamification, based on SDT principles, can enhance students' motivation. At the same time, it highlights the lack of data on the practical implementation of gamification and the optimal ways to integrate it effectively. The study suggests further research aimed at the practical application of gamification and the examination of its long-term effects.
