Seamless pipes are widely used in the oil, gas and engineering industries, which places special demands on their reliability and safety. The choice of steel grade and heat treatment of mandrels for piercing and helical rolling of seamless pipe are very important to ensure the required performance. The work substantiates the choice of steel 4Kh5MF1S and develops a technological cycle for the manufacture of mandrels of increased resistance for piercing and helical rolling of seamless pipes. An optimal combination of strength and ductility of this steel was found during heat treatment, including quenching at 1070°C and tempering in the temperature range of 650-700°C.
