Terrorist act as a social trauma: criminological analysis

The terrorist act is considered as a social trauma in this article. The article author believes that the criminological analysis of a terrorist act as a social trauma is very popular, as well as it is noted that social trauma is a phenomenon that needs to be studied on the basis of an interdisciplinary approach. In this article the author reveals three following main aspects in the framework of the studied topic: firstly, causing social trauma as a goal of terrorists; secondly, the social trauma caused by ter- rorist acts to other social traumas; thirdly, the information environment as a basis for “reproduction” of social trauma. Special attention is paid to the third aspect. The article author points that the impact of the information environment and the mass media on the “reproduction” of social trauma caused by terrorist acts is very significant and therefore many researchers are critically evaluating it.
