Theology and hermeneutics of icon: pseudo-dionysius the areopagite and maxim the confessor

Icon is one of the facets of the artistic element integral to Christian divine service. It evolved with development of personal devoutness. The theological evaluation of icon was greatly influenced by Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite and Maxim the Confessor who established the connection between divine service and art as reflection of divine energy in artistic creation of man.
