The article is devoted to the problem of lyricism which has the pronounced intellectual connotations in Annensky’s book “ Silent Songs”. In his critical works the poet considered the “lyricism” of the literary work as an artistic expression of real experiences of a writer perceived by readers as “anonymous”. Denying ready “formulae” of consciousness, Annensky finds support for modern thought in direct experience of the real world. Things act as “doubles” of those ideas (infinity, death, time and space) which structure conflicting spheres of human consciousness. The tragic element of consciousness of the lyrical subject is most apparently found at the disclosure of the problem of coexistence of nature and a human.
