The article presented the results of studying correlation of emotional and volitional characteristics of adolescents with a character accentuation type. The main approaches to character studying, problems of its definition and operationalization, connection with other categories were considered. Character was defined as sustainable ways of emotional and volitional response of an individual to environment. This definition is opposed to understanding of character as moral and ethical evaluation of an individual. Thus, we believe that character could be determined through emotional and volitional qualities. Accentuation of character mean excessively expressed trait that makes an individual vulnerable to specific influences. In the study, we relied on A. E. Lichko’s typology of character accentuations. The disadvantage of typological approach to character studying was a lack of common basis for accentuations classification. We first made an attempt to correlate character accentuations typology with emotional and volitional qualities as a base of characters taxonomy. During the study the severity of emotional and volitional characteristics of adolescents with certain types of character accentuations was revealed, the descriptions of these character accentuations types in the context of emotional and volitional response were given as opposed to description of typical behavioral reactions.
