Approaches to the study of depressed regions in socio-economic research

The paper presents theoretical approaches to the study of depressed regions in Russia. The author considers the concept of a 'depressed region' and its distinctions from related concepts used in scientific economic and geographic literature. Attention is drawn to the need to consider depression at both the intra-regional and the local levels.
