The article examines the features of the plot of a video game. Within the framework of the article, the author's typology of basic plots of video games is proposed and trends in the development of plot-oriented video games are indicated. An important step in the study of the artistic narrative of a video game is the analysis of the general and secondary plots. The general and secondary storylines have a rhizome structure. The most popular task of videogame stories is the disclosure of characters and the consolidation of the immersion effect. At the root of the general plot, there is always a story about the basic character or heroes, in the capacity of which the player is invited to take part. An important distinguishing feature of the general plot is the gameplay narrative as communication action.
