The article deals with the specificity of cohesion in the scientific text. The paper gives the analysis of the concept of cohesion and describes classifications of cohesion types. The author studied several cohesion types in the subtexts of the scientific text determined by the conventional form of knowledge: problem, hypothesis, substantiation and inference. The research reveals that in the scientific article “Metaphor” written by M.Black the problem-formulating and hypothesis-making subtexts are dominated by synonymous cohesion, the substantiating subtext – by absolute cohesion and the inference-drawing subtext – by substitute cohesion. The analysis showed the dependence between the conventional form of knowledge and its linguistic expression, i.e. cohesion types.
