The tradition of using tapestries in the decoration of Russian palace interiors goes back several centuries. The end of the 17th - beginning of the 18th century was the time of reforms and transformations in all areas of life of the Russian state. Russia's political successes made it one of the most significant nations, which had an impact on the development of the economy, culture and art. New ways of living, grandiose construction of palaces and public buildings, expansion of trade and diplomatic contacts: all these had a significant impact on the development of the artistic system of using textiles, carpets and tapestries.
