Toponymic Anglicisms in geographic nomenclature of Quebec (Canada)

The article deals with the reasons for appearance of English loan words in the toponymy of Quebec, their types and ways of adaptation to the Quebec variant of French language, namely phonetic, spelling, morphological, paraphrasing (folk etymology). They include direct lexical borrowings, borrowings of English topoformants, or constructions. We also analyze lexical-semantic groups of toponymic Anglicisms. Limitation of English borrowings is one of the tasks of the language policy in Quebec aimed at priority use of Quebec French in provinces. As a result of the inevitable acculturation of Francophones outside French Canada, Quebec continues to be a stronghold of the French language and culture. British and later American English impact on Quebec toponymy is associated with numerous historical, political and social events in bicultural Canada.
