The paper reviews axes discovered in the graves of the Mayatsky archaeologicalassemblage studied by the Soviet-Bulgarian-Hungarian expedition in 1975, 1977-1982s.As a result of typology of the finds and search for similar items, it became possible tosingle out types and kinds of axes typical for the Saltovo-Mayatsky culture as well as rareaxes. The expedition also managed to identify sex and age characteristics of the graveswith axes and inter-occurrence of axes and various funeral offerings. Some of the ritecharacteristics (such as orientation of the dead bodies, frequency of weapon finds) thatmake graves within the Mayatsky settlement different from the graves in the burial groundwere identified during the analysis
