Merchant ventures as a form of trading corporations in Russia in XIX – early XX centuries

This article studies the corporate structure of the merchant ventures, the role of which in the Russian Empire was assigned to general or limited partnerships. The author defines the class character of participants of such partnerships and focuses on the fact that merchant ventures of the XIXth century were one of the main forms of consolidation of merchant capital. Based on the analysis of the then provisions of the Charter of Trade and the Senate jurisprudence materials in Russia the author describes the registration system of merchant ventures, the advantages and limitations that have occurred in their organization and activities.
