These small forms of folk poetic creativity, clothed in a short, rhythmic dictum, have always noted that every Mordvin must eventually have a family, give birth to children in marriage. The absence of children in the Mordovian family was considered the greatest misfortune. In the traditional Mordovian culture, reflected in proverbs and sayings, the family was perceived as the economic and moral basis of a correct lifestyle. In the understanding of the Mordovian ethnos, matrimony was considered a natural and indispensable stage in life.
