The article deals with an insufficiently explored aspect of psychological motivation of the joint reading as a form of reading activity. The author analyzes Maslow's hierarchy of needs (the need for safety, the need to belong, the need for respect and recognition, the need for self-expression and self-actualization), and their implementation through the joint reading as a tradition. The article highlights the need for reading-based communication through empathy, sympathy, and co-creation as the main motivation that encourages the tradition of family reading as a kind of reading activity.
