The article analyzes the ideological and artistic structure of Vladimir Mitypov’s fairy tale Fuf the Baby Mammoth within the context of mythological and folkloric traditions. The study examines the influence of myth and folklore on literary fairy tales and iden-tifies motifs of magic, journey, initiation, and the struggle between good and evil. The implementation of archetypes such as the child, the mother, the wise elder, the guardi-an, and the shadow is explored. Folkloric character types are identified, including the seeker-hero, the victim-hero, the donor-hero, the helper-hero, and the antagonist, along with their characteristic actions and functions. The authorial stance is analyzed against the backdrop of the folkloric tradition. The application of historicism and the intention of popular-scientific narration determine the genre-specific features of Mitypov’s tale. The study also traces the artistic evolution of the authorial characters, created on the basis of folkloric images and plots.
