The traditional view on gender in the fine arts in the context of the paintings by V.I. Podkuiko

The gender aspect in the fine arts has been analyzed in the context of the artworks by V.I. Podkuiko, the author of women portraits. The method of semiological analysis by Roland Bart has been applied to determine a series of expressions considered to be typical for the gender discourse in Soviet and post-Soviet period, during and under influence of which the artworks being analysed were produced. The conclusion presented justification of traditional view on gender in artworks by Valeriy Podkuiko in both denotative and connotative aspects.
